TVs have come a long way with us, by the constant changes in technology it has also enhanced our TVs. Earlier there were only black and white TVs and with only one channel on it. Then as the competition increases in this market TVs have become more advanced. We have covered all the latest TV technologies in this article.

Now they come in various technologies and picture qualities as well, from QLED-OLED to 8k, 4k and with the combination of WCG and HDR as well. They all are very unique and have certain advantages over each other.

8k

Resolution of TV plays a vital role when we are considering to purchase a new TV. from resolutions like 720p, 1080p, UHD, Full HD, HD ready to 4k and now 8k. 8k is the best resolution that we can get a TV.

It is the most advanced technology in pixels by far. Simple people understand that it will be double in quality and pixels from 4k TVs, but they are wrong it is actually 4 times the total pixel count of 4k TVs. 4k TVs are 3840*2160(8,294400 pixels); in exacts, number and 8k is 4 times this number that equates to 7,680 × 4,320, or 33 million pixels (33,117,600, to be exact).

This technology is not available in small sizes, you have to spend near about lakhs of rupees to get this quality on a TV. There are very few companies that are making 8k TVs like you can get the best 8k led tv from sony or Samsung company.

8k resolution TVs are available in sizes starting from 65 inch to 98 inch. The size of these TVs varies from company to company and model to model some companies only make 8k TVs in resolution more than 85 inch.

The only issue in purchasing 8k resolution TV is the content. The content is not available in much quantity, especially in India. There are fewer to no content creators that are making content in 8k resolution. It is quite early for this resolution.

4k

4k is 4 times the pixel resolution, or 2 times the line resolution (2160p), of 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels). It enhances the picture quality of TV and it delivers better image quality as the size of TV increases.

4k content is also available in video streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. There are some other resolutions as well like 720p or 1080p.  1280×720 that also called HD high definition and 1080( 1920×1080 ) is also called full HD in resolution. They also provide a great quality of 4k TVs.

QLED / OLED are redefining TV panels and colors

There is a huge battle going on between the LED panel and QLED/OLED.

OLED simply means Organic Light-Emitting Diode, in OLED technology every tiny pixel has its own light and it does not get dependent upon the back panel like LCD. It is simply every pixel glows organically when light passes through them.

It produces a great combination of contrast as the contrast is the difference between the light and dark. For the amazing dark particles, every pixel can shut off. LG is the maker of this panel and it supplies these panels to other companies like Sony, Panasonic, Philips, etc.

LCD technology, on the other hand, has to depend on the backlight which is lit at the end of all the layers of the screen. LCD here is not LCD TVs but the LCD technology or non-OLED technology TVs.

QLED means Quantum Light-Emitting Diode, it is just the quantum dots on the LCD panel. It gets the light from the back end of the panel, the light before coming in front of our eyes has to pass through many layers. Brands like Samsung, Visio, TCL uses this technology.

HDR and Picture Quality

Another term that enhances the picture quality is the HDR that pushes the picture quality to its best. It enhances the color contrast and color range to the most expanded level. Color range expands shows the brighter red blue and greens. The combination of HDR with WCG is one of the most enhanced qualities that anybody can have that provides mesmerizing color combinations.

HDR 10

HDR is the most used and easily available HDR format in the market. Most of the Blu ray discs available are in the HDR 10 format. Manufacturers also love to use this format as they do not have to pay extra money for licensing to use this in their TVs. It has two variants like HDR 10 and HDR 10+. The simple HDR variant provides only 1000 nits and HDR 10+ comes with 4000 nits technology.

Dolby Vision

Dolby Vision is also a technology variant in HDR format. This provides more nits brightness in TV as it comes with 10000 nits which are more than double the HDR 10. It also has the 12-bit color depth which is also more than in HDR 10 format. This is found in the premium models of selected brands like  LG, Philips, and Vizio.

Other than these two there are some other formats in HDR as well which are less famous like Hybrid Log-Gamma and Technicolor HDR. These are developed by BBC and NHK for the satellite purposes.

Improved Picture Quality by Premium Brands-

Premium brands also come up with improved picture quality technology to offer crisp and clear pictures and to match the increased amount of pixels as well.

For 4k TVs, sony uses the X Reality Pro engine which upscales every pixel to its best. It also adds the missing colors, vibrant and textures into the picture.LG, on the other hand, provides Triple XD which mainly focuses on three things contrast, colors, and noise. Samsung uses the 3D HyperReal Engine to enhance the picture quality, it allows the TV to display 3D television, governing the color, contrast, and motion to its optimal level. Panasonic has also used a 4K Fine Remaster engine.

These premium brands make their TVs extra special and allow their users to have the best experience of watching TV which is possible. TV brands are constantly upgrading their technology and all of the premium brands want to offer the latest tv technologies in the market to their users.

Every manufacturer has its own operating system OS installed on their Smart TV. Only because of the operating system a TV can be used as a Smart TV. These works and also are the same as your smartphones and laptops. LG’s webOS is the best operating system at this time in India but only 55LJ550T  comes with the webOS operating system. The webOS operating system is completely user-friendly, stable and fast. But on the negative side, it does not allows the apps which Google offers.

Android just like our smartphones, many branded companies like Sony are using the android operating system in their Smart TVs. But some of the android tv features are still in the testing phase. IT is considerably future proof and google is working very heavily on this to make it more and more advanced.

Tizen is the name of the operating system of Samsung, they call it a smarthub. It has amazing colorful icons on the Home page and it is very easy to connect with other devices like smartphones. It comes with a remote which can be used as a universal remote and make the other remotes obsolete. Sharing the apps, pictures, videos to other devices makes it uniques as you can now see all the pictures and videos on the bigger screen of TV by sharing them.

Motion rate is one of the most important specs in a TV but users give it very little to no priority while buying it. It is responsible for providing the amazing picture quality as it reduces the complete blur of the picture.

There is an important role in the refresh rate in this concept. Samsung brand focus on three things in his aspect and they have named it Clear Motion Rate (CMR).  factors: panel refresh rateimage processor speed, and backlight technology. Similarly, LG calls it TruMotion and ensures that it provides crisp pictures especially in motion like screens like game matches so the users do not miss anything. Just like LG, Panasonic use twice the actual rate for what it calls, Image Motion Rate.
